Kimi to Boku

I seriously never expected that I’d enjoy watching “Kimi to Boku” as much as I did. After all, the drawing animation style seemed “quite laid-back” that it gave me the impression there’d be times where in I’d feel somewhat sleepy watching it. Don’t get me wrong though, I am not criticizing the animation style. In fact, I do like it. It’s just that when something is quite laid-back, you have this tendency to get relaxed and then just doze-off at some point.

Fortunately, though it is indeed a light watch, it is not something that made me doze-off. In fact, every moment of it was full of feels for me—funny, entertaining, amusing and even heart-warming. It makes one nostalgic with all their fun and youthful days back in school spent with their treasured friends.

It is simple but true.

That’s why even if I am a girl; I was able to relate to some of the things that happened to the group.
I loved all the main characters [especially the twins—particularly Yuki]. I like how, with all their different personalities, they managed to stay friends up to high school. They give a vibe of having strong bonds and irreplaceable friendship.

I am actually quite envious of how four of them—Yuki and Yuta, the good-looking and seemingly passive yet fun and talented twins; Kaname, the responsible class representative and student council member that has a short-temper, especially with Yuki; and Shun, the effeminate-looking and gentle pacifier of the group—managed to stick together since their kindergarten years. I have not met anybody who had friends from preschool years they remain close to up to now. Even I do not have such.

What’s more admirable for me is the fact that despite having gone that waaaaaaay back, Chizuru, the half-German and half-Japanese transfer student, became part of the group. Well, it’s more like he forced his way in with his loud and quite carefree attitude; and he did play with Yuki sometime during their childhood. But still. To ease your way in in a group that has been long established is pretty amazing. And what’s more, their friendship with one another is true.

I did not have any dull moment in watching this series and though it isn’t action-packed or anything, it is plenty adventurous in its own way. An everyday filled with fun escapades of a group of high school friends. How absolutely nice and refreshing. A slice of life I miss having.

This is indeed one of my greatest anime watches for this year. Even the opening and ending songs are great. I am very much looking forward to watching season 2.
